melb writers fest wrap-up

mwf is over, and this year i actually went to more things than i ever have. seven sessions all up, the festival club's shallow end most nights. i couldn't bring myself to go on the last night though - after watching the poetry idol finals, i just wanted to go home. my absolute highlight for the festival was discovering the amazing shane koyczan - brilliant perfomer of very evocative words. in the same way that everyone left ubud last year a little in love with anita desai, i reckon shane would easily qualify as the collective crowd crush for this year's mwf. anyway, it was a fun week, with many new friends made and interesting ideas shared. and next year, the mwf will be at fed square instead of the malthouse, which though a little sad (i love the malthouse!), i must admit i'm looking forward to.

now, back to it! i must try and get some work done this week, as next week my house is being (willingly) invaded by canadian cousins in search of good times... please leave your suggestions of good stuff to do and places to go after the jump (i.e. in the comments section).

Fed square will be a much better location I reckon. One of the things that puts me off going to the mwf is that it's a PITA to get to.

There are some really great outdoor bars in the city now - that one with the shipping containers off china town and the rooftop at Cookie. Oh and Madame Brussels which is my new fave bar (very Alice in Wonderland). If the weather's nice this week, and it should be, that could amuse the cousins.
