let's just call this the first trimester.

so, why should we call it the first trimester?
because i have this secret thing inside me, but i feel like if i tell too many people, i'll jinx it.

i've decided to post anonymously in this blog because i'm about to embark on a bit of an adventure, and i want to be able to record all my feelings, thoughts and experiences for other people out there who wonder what exactly goes on in a situation like this.

'and exactly what situation is that?' i hear you ask, 'and why do you think i'd be interested?'

well, here's the deal. i am on the verge of securing a publishing contract with a major publisher for my first novel-length work of fiction. i have only had one other minor publication, and i have been writing this novel for the last couple of years. i have no agent, no accountant, and no idea exactly what to expect. so, as a community service, here is my pledge of what i will and will not do from here to publication:

I will..
- share with you my thoughts and anxieties about my writing, and a blow-by-blow account of my dealings with my assigned editor
- share the experience of contract negotiation procedure
- change names to protect identities (and my ass)

i will not...
- give any specific details of my novel, but will just be talking about the process.

i may...
- eventually, reveal the name of my novel. but then again, i may not.

let the games begin!

i've only just discovered your blog...4 years after you first started! Congrats on your successes. I look forward to reading the archives as to how the whole process of getting your first novel published went!
