got the first round of edits back from the publisher last week. head is swimming with edit marks and additions & deletions and stuff. it is nice, though, to be reading the manscript word-for-word from hard copy. some continuity things are standing up and waving at me, asking to be fixed. i get to re-visit some great opportunities to colour in scenes that i missed the first time around. editor has helped me break the thing into chapters, which is great - i started out well enough, but there's this massive bit in the middle i just couldn't break into smaller pieces. the plan is i will work away at the first bit this week, and the second bit will be deliverd to me toward the end of the week. uni starts (for me) today, too. woo-hoo...
i am so excited because i have also been told that the cover design concepts are nearly there - i may get to see them next week. i can't wait!

Wow, this is so exciting. It is great reading the process on your blog, because you never realise just what the editing process is like when you read the actual book!
I look forward to reading it... and seeing the cover design. I am thinking a funky-traditional look...
hey saff...
yeah i am a little overwhelmed/excited about the whole thing now, more so than ever i guess, because now there is a hard-and-fast deadline when the whole editing process needs to be done by. it's all a little surreal... i'll drop hints once i see the cover for myself, but i think you're on the right track!
Are you still planning a Bollywodd-Style extravaganza for the book launch?!?!?
Woohoo... editing sounds fun, not. Somehow at the moment the thought of having to reread bits of my novel is enough to make me want to quit writing forever, let alone having to rewrite it.
Cover designs sound exciting though. I have dibs that there will be some kind of '50s hep cat drawing type cover. They seem to be very popular at the moment. A few years ago it was the like hand coloured sepia photos. Maybe you will be part of a new trend though...
hey kathryn!
i hear ya re: the edit. it's an interesting process... i'll keep you posted about the cover - should i be taking bets, i wonder?
saff - what did you say that needed to be deleted? oooooh - scandal!
LOL - It was just a double posting of my second comment. Not that much of a scandal. Damn Blogger comments.
