tears and cheers

well, another year gone. 2005 was quite an amazing ride for me - the publication of 'the bollywood beauty' obviously being the pinnacle. 2005 was a year of discovery for me, and i enjoyed it immensely. 2005 has given me a new perspective, and i'm looking forward to finding out what 2006 has in store.

the title of this post refers to the title of a little piece i have coming out in the age newspaper this saturday - a little bit on a book that made me laugh, and one that made me cry. my mates have been giving me a hard time about how much my mug has appeared in the papers lately - now there's a complaint i never thought i'd be hearing. it's true though - i got a lot of print coverage for the book, which is excellent. i wonder if that translated to sales? i'll find out when i get a sales statement this year sometime. i'm looking forward to that - and dreading it at the same time.

planning of novel no. 2 is well under way - i guess i'll just have to wait and see if al this theorising actually comes to anything. here's to a year full of creativity and release for all of us!

Hi Shalini!

Firstly, congratulations on publishing your first novel!

And Thanks for visiting my blog! Evidently I've made it onto Google :-) I do want to read your novel but when I posted that - er, post, I was after something based more in India rather than the expatriate experience (though it's closer to my own experience). It sounds great, though, and I am tickled by the blurb - and the innocent Rupa and her saris and roti. I'll definitely let you know when do - how is it being distributed? How are the reviews so far? And, of course,

Happy New Year!
