this week, the victorian writers centre held an info session on funding, where representatives from ozco and arts vic talked about, and answered questions on, funding opportunities available through them. i have never applied for funding before - in past years, my writing track-record was not impressive enough to have me fit into their 'emerging writer' category - but this year things are different. i've totally bypassed the 'emerging' and skipped straight to the 'developing writer' category... odd, but i guess that could explain the occasional nausea and general malaise.
anyway, the rep from ozco was saying how applying for funding should be part of your 'yearly writerly habit' - i thought that was an interesting way of putting it. so this year, i begin - i will apply for funding and see what happens. it would be great if it came through. even though the odds aren't that bad - one in five for funding, and about the same for residencies - there are still a lot of people who miss out from year to year, so i won't go quitting my day job or getting my hopes up. though the interwebs is never short on inspiration... one writer for whom things seem to be going brilliantly at the moment is max barry. but i guess if i sit here in my dressing gown and just wonder what it must be like to be in his position instead of actually writing something, then ive got no one else to blame but myself. so i'm going now to get started on my new habit, and hopefully write something new today. hoo-roo.
